It's on! Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 and Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 -- Thanksgiving Weekend -- is the 30th anniversary reunion of Vancouver College's class of 1988.

Friday, Oct. 5: Grads only pizza and beer at V.C.: Price $20 each. 

Saturday, Oct. 6: Grads and significant others appies and bevies at the Wicklow (Stamp's Landing, False Creek): NOTE, due to demand, we have chosen to move out of the party room and into reserved tables in the group area of the 2nd floor bar where it'll be on your own tab, rather than us collecting in advance. We will refund those who have paid already. (Please let Bob or Paolo know how many of you are coming.)

Both events are 7 p.m. to midnight. 

If there is popular demand for a Saturday afternoon family event, we will add that to the schedule.

Coming soon, your 30th anniversary reunion

The 30th anniversary of the class of 1988's graduation is coming in June.

Your feedback is needed, to plan the event.

The weekend of June 8-10 has been suggested, with popular activities similar to previous reunions.

• Friday night: pizza (and other healthy delicacies) and beer (and non-aloholic options) at the VC campus alumni room with a visit to a downtown establishment to continue the revelry. 
• Saturday afternoon: family picnic at O'Hagan Field. 
• Saturday night: informal get-together with bevvies and appies for grads and partners at a downtown establishment.

J.P. Doherty, 1970-2014 R.I.P.

Sad news to report. John Doherty died May 1. According to the Vancouver Sun and Province obituary: "John filled the hearts of all who knew him with his own tremendous heart, love, loyalty, devotion and kindness." I have great memories of various and sundry hijinks with John throughout high school, but mostly the U2 concerts at B.C. Place of 1987 and 1997 and Pogues in 1988.

Feel free to contribute your memories below.

Join your fellow class of 1988 comrades at the funeral on Friday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at Holy Name church. Afterward, we will raise a Guinness (or three) in John's memory.

Merry Christmas to one and all, wherever you are on the Big Blue Marble! 

It's the 25th of December. No better day to remember a special 25th of another sort that is coming in 2013: The 25th anniversary of the Vancouver College class of 1988.

In June 2008, 57 of us gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary over two days of events, including a grads-only beer-tasting at the Alumni Room, a family picnic on O'Hagan Field and a banquet at Ceili's. 

What do you want to do in 2013? 

Now's the time to share ideas, via this blog, email, Facebook or an early January, informal get together in Vancouver. What dates are the most convenient? What types of activities?

Monitoring the hall

Sean Fleming, like many of us, got kicked out of class once or twice and was relegated to the hall.

On April 18, the purple and gold will enshrine him in the hall -- the VC Alumni Hall of Honor. Fleming is being recognized for his upright-splitting, Grey Cup-winning career with the green and gold Edmonton Eskimos at the 6 p.m.-11 p.m. event in the VC Sports Complex.

Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of eight to 10 and include a four-course dinner and cash bar.

Bob Corbett, Turlough O'Hare, Frank Smith, Henry van Driel and the late, great Bob Ackles are other inductees. The 1967 varsity basketball team will also be honored. Click here for more info.
